Cool Coffee Shops in Connaught Place
“Let’s meet in CP…it’s central.” My “catch up for coffee” plans usually conclude with this sentence. Partly because the charm of “New Delhi’s colonial heart” invariably beckons me and partly because, well it is central. “So, where in CP?” The answer to this depends on whom I am meeting. A formal meeting usually happens in one of the many CCDs or Costa Coffee shops. CCD Square in C block is a comfortable and go-to stop. But then there are several options of places that are not CCD or Costa Coffee. Here’s my list of best coffee places (that are not necessarily coffee shops) in CP. Try one of these if you haven’t…

Beat the Heat: Citrus Drench Spa at The Imperial
If hedonism was my way of life, I would have spent most of my time at a spa. I think it’s one of the quickest (expensive, of course) ways to cut off from the monotony and cool off your senses especially during such merciless summer days. How wonderful it would be to be able to hibernate in cool corners of a spa! I would definitely pick The Imperial Spa, one of the best spas in Delhi, for a summer hideout. Now, let me admit that anything I say about The Imperial Spa is bound to be biased since it is my favourite spa in Delhi. It never fails to impress me a…

Food Review: Tamra, Shangri La Eros Hotel
What can make a foodie happier than a large buffet spread? A larger buffet! Tamra’s expansive spread makes it an actual Shangri-la (imaginary utopia) for food lovers. Japanese, Cantonese, Continental, Indian – the number of options spoil you for choice. As you enter Tamra you are greeted by a warm staff and an air of freshness. Clever use of mirrors give the place a very spacious ambience. Wooden flooring, warm toned tables and rustic décor give the restaurant a unique visual appeal. Seating can be arranged near large windows which give the restaurant a beautiful look. Copper utensils as art installations reflect its name (Tamra means copper in Sanskrit). We…

Hotel Review: Vivanta by Taj Dwarka is ideal for a Staycation
One should never judge a book by its cover. As quite often the most ordinary looking covers hold the most memorable tales. Little did I know that the same would hold true for a hotel — the Vivanta by Taj, Dwarka Sector 21. What might look like a regular, ordinary building from the outside holds a world of wonders within. Here’s my review of Vivanta by Taj Dwarka: The room design and the interiors are one of its kind. The hotel seems to have employed visionaries instead of architects. Whether it’s the Ganges-ghat inspired lobby area or the awe inspiring rooms or the intellect inspiring Kabir wall, inspiration seems to be the…

Hotel Buzz: Le Méridien opens in Gurgaon
Old bottle but new wine! The swanky white hotel, formerly known as Pullman, in Gurgaon is now Le Méridien. While the design remains the same, everything about it is now “Méridien”. Le Méridien takes art, social gatherings and its coffee very seriously. The emphasis on the three is palpable at this hotel. A beautiful Paresh Maity installation establishes the brand’s focus on art; there are lovely paintings inside too. The installation outside the restaurant “Latest Recipe” too captures your attention. The 285-room property has 22 suites with all the modern facilities. Watch out for the restaurants here, which will slowly open their doors to public. As of now, Latest Recipe is a space…

Top Picks for Lohri Evening in Delhi
Bonfire, songs, dance, fun and food — can there be a better way to celebrate a cold winter evening in Delhi! Come 13th January and little bonfires and sounds of dhol will bring the entire north India come alive to celebrate Lohri (while other parts of the country will celebrate Pongal, Makar Sakranti and Uttrayan). There are apparently varied reasons to celebrate Lohri: to celebrate the harvest of rabi crops; to worship fire; to celebrate winter solstice on 13th January, the shortest day & longest night of the year. To celebrate the festival or simply the midwinter evening, try out one of the following options if you’re in Delhi. Musical Evening at India Habitat Centre…

Unexplored Amritsar
Unless you have a friend or relative there, you probably wouldn’t have any other reason to visit Amritsar than the Golden Temple. But while you are there, there’s more you can explore besides the popular tourist sites. Yes, there is more to Amritsar than Jallianwala Bagh, Wagah Border, little shopping and Amritsari Naan. All you need to have is a little interest in history and a willingness to know something more about this city or interest in clicking less explored Amritsar. On this trip, I found out about The Heritage Walk started two years ago by Punjab Tourism, which I feel will be a perfect way of knowing the 450-year-old heritage…
