Delicious Punjabi Food at Made in Punjab, Gurgaon
I don’t fancy eating bhelpuri and golgappa in a seemingly posh restaurant. But there was something different about these street-food delights served at the Bhel Bar inside the newly opened Made in Punjab restaurant in Gurgaon. I recommend this one for its quality, variety and innovations. It’s not a typical Punjabi restaurant. Location: I love its location. I hate Gurgaon but I quite like the idea of an open mall amidst the monstrous, gigantic buildings (they will eat me up alive one day, I feel!). It’s actually just the open space (DLF Cyber Hub) between Infinity Towers and Hero BPO that has been brilliantly utilized as a food mall. Ambience:…

Goa Diaries Part 2: The Goan Food Fantasy!
The Goan Food fantasy: Good Restaurants in Goa Perhaps the best thing about being close to the sea is sea food. If you have an insatiable appetite for fish, crabs, prawns and other such delicacies Goa has a sea of options for you to choose from. Now, we are not going to talk about the much spoken about Brittos and Titos of Goa. Skipping the predictable choices, we decided to look around for ourselves. Great decision! While we were on our way from the airport to our villa we stopped over at Mardol Restuarant. My initial impression of the place was a little sad. The place smelled of fish and it would…

The Goa Diaries 3: The Great Goa Experience
Any trip with the family is always fun. A trip to Goa makes it all the more enjoyable. My Goan experience was a mixed bag. Open this bag and you’ll see some amazing sleepy town imagery, winding drive-me-happy roads and authentic Goan cuisine. On the other hand, the shades of grey that Goa has to offer form a rather murky image. But my experience in Goa was mostly happy. I drove around in my rental, got lost with the help of my GPS but in the process found natural beauty. And that’s what’s magical about Goa. It’s perhaps the best place to get lost for every corner seems to tell…

Sunday Brunch @Latest Recipe, Le Meridien Gurgaon
The Concept of Sunday Brunch: The origin of the concept of a brunch seems to stem out of laziness. Several sleepy Sunday mornings that began at a time too late for breakfast and too early for lunch must have perhaps led a marketer to think of the concept. Curious about the history I read a few links online and asked some food experts around. Some food historians say it all began in England while some say the concept is American. Some site the practice of Catholics feasting on a large meal after fasting before mass. I am not sure of the origin but I have a fixed childhood memory related…

Top 10 Unusual Things You Must Do in Taiwan
I confess I haven’t been much curious about Taiwan. My camera was born there, says the “Made in Taiwan” label on it. Apart from that my knowledge and interest about the leaf-shaped island has been limited. So, the experiences I had during my seven-day trip there were completely new to even my imagination. There are no never-seen-before-beautiful sights as such, so don’t put it in your must-see list… But the experiences it offers are enthralling. I recommend this offbeat destination in your must-experience list. Here are some of the top experiences I had in Taiwan – a list of things to do in Taiwan: 1. Offering Cake at a Temple:…

Food Review: Indian Accent, The Pioneer of Modern Indian Cuisine
If Indian Accent (the restaurant) was a man, he’d be a classy, tasteful gentleman; someone who is deeply admired and is well aware of his status. Yet he wears humility on his sleeves. Dressed suavely, his style is sophisticated; he is well travelled and has embraced all the wisdom of the world. He has mastered various languages of the world but speaks about them in pure ‘Indian accent’. That’s what the restaurant is: inspired by the best of West yet desi at heart and soul. It is perhaps this blissful marriage of the two worlds that has made it one of the “100 best places to eat in the world”.…

Food Review: Lodi The Garden Restaurant
For a winter person like me, there are only a few things delightful about summers. Watermelon is one of them. So this Monday’s lunch at Lodi (note it is not Lodhi) – The Garden Restaurant with a Melon Special menu this month was just what the doctor ordered! I must mention that I have a little prejudice towards the restaurant because of its location – Lodhi Road, my favourite area in Delhi – and the alfresco setting (one of the best in Delhi). One step into the restaurant premises and you the owner, Inderpal Singh Kochhar, loves ‘green’. The ambiance is green with lots and lots and lots of plants! And…
