Hotel Buzz: Le Méridien opens in Gurgaon

Old bottle but new wine! The swanky white hotel, formerly known as Pullman, in Gurgaon is now Le Méridien. While the design remains the same, everything about it is now “Méridien”. Le Méridien takes art, social gatherings and its coffee very seriously. The emphasis on the three is palpable at this hotel. A beautiful Paresh Maity installation establishes the brand’s focus on art; there are lovely paintings inside too. The installation outside the restaurant “Latest Recipe” too captures your attention. The 285-room property has 22 suites with all the modern facilities. Watch out for the restaurants here, which will slowly open their doors to public. As of now, Latest Recipe is a space…

    Food Review: Golden Peacock, Macau

Last month Purva and I enjoyed a small break in Macau. I shall post a detailed account of the trip soon. But here’s a quick review of the Golden Peacock restaurant at The Venetian Macau. For anyone who savors Indian cuisine, a trip to Macau would be incomplete without visiting the Golden Peacock restaurant at The Venetian Macau. A splendidly decorated restaurant, the Golden Peacock has been awarded the Best Special F&B Awards in the 2014 Hurun Presidential Awards and has also received the prestigious Michelin star. We were served a four-course meal by a very pleasant staff. The staff is Indian. Chef Justin Paul from Kerala uses his culinary skills…

    Mind Your Manners, travellers!

I was of the view that Punjabis are perhaps the noisiest travellers until I encountered a big group of Chinese tourists during my vacation in the Maldives. Such is the reputation of Chinese tourists all over the world, that China had to tell its tourists to mind their manners! I know it is unfair to stereotype when one encounters ill-mannered tourists everywhere — one who loves to shout and scream, one who loves to break the queue, one who will force you to listen to his conversations, you get the drift. Isn’t encountering these trouble makers on airplane is the worst travel curse! I remember the honeymooning couple sitting next to me…

Top Picks for Lohri Evening in Delhi

Bonfire, songs, dance, fun and food — can there be a better way to celebrate a cold winter evening in Delhi! Come 13th January and little bonfires and sounds of dhol will bring the entire north India come alive to celebrate Lohri (while other parts of the country will celebrate Pongal, Makar Sakranti and Uttrayan). There are apparently varied reasons to celebrate Lohri: to celebrate the harvest of rabi crops; to worship fire; to celebrate winter solstice on 13th January, the shortest day & longest night of the year. To celebrate the festival or simply the midwinter evening, try out one of the following options if you’re in Delhi. Musical Evening at India Habitat Centre…

Review: Avoid Fun Island Resort Maldives

Blessed with all the goodness of nature, the Maldives is an ideal honeymoon destination. No sights to see, the place is all about breathing in nature’s beauty while chilling at a relaxing resort. What can possibly go wrong in such an idyllic romantic destination? Terrible hospitality. Pleasant service is conspicuous by its absence at Fun Island Resort in Kaafu Atoll. This when their website had us believe everything that this resort is not. Misleading Info The one quintessential trait we found missing at Fun Island Resort was the “fun”. The beach front room was a misnomer; front of the rooms only has trees and vegetation blocking any slightest view of the…

    Weekend Getaway: Shervani Hilltop, Nainital

There’s something magical about hills that makes my heart yearn for a visit. Whether it’s the joy of the drive, the fragrance of pine trees or just the playfully winding roads. The hills bring out the child in me. Yes, agreed, that the natural beauty has succumbed to commercialization. But that’s where a property like Shervani Hilltop in Nainital presents itself has a dream destination. Ideal for budget honeymooners and families alike, the 320-odd kilometer distance, and good quality roads make it perfect for a weekend getaway from Delhi. Technically, the property is located in Mallital, about 2 kilometers away from the main Mall road but the majestic views while…
