Kid-Friendly Free Summer Activities in Brampton

We moved to Brampton in November last year when it was all dressed in white like a beautiful Christian bride. Now, with summer in all its glory, the city is blooming with flowers in the best of nature’s colors. It’s splendid to walk around while admiring the gorgeous hues. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that it sometimes feels like walking into seemingly unreal wallpapers on our desktop!

This beautiful ‘Flower City’ offers several activities that don’t cost a thing. Sharing here the things we love to do with our toddler during the weekends in summer in Brampton:

Take Long Strolls

With the sun out till 9 pm, needless to say, our favorite weekend activity in Brampton is to take long walks either in one of the parks or just around the neighborhood. We, like most people in Canada, try to compensate for the time (forcefully) spent indoors during the harsh winters! Not only is this a great time to get a good dose of vitamin D, but it is also a fabulous time to get your kids to appreciate nature.

Spend Time at the Library

If you are a book lover like me, you’d love the idea of taking your little one to the library. Unlike in India, the libraries here are a fun place for kids with several activities to keep them engaged. We recently became a member of Brampton Library; the card gives us access to 7 branches in the vicinity. We can take on loan up to a total of 50 books, magazines, DVDs, etc at a time! All this for free.

While I take my 2-year-old daughter for storytime on Tuesdays and Thursdays, there are several other activities and games for older kids. For summer vacations, there is a Summer Reading Club at the library encouraging kids to read books and visit the library often. It’s also a fabulous way for kids to make friends.

Visit the Play Areas

Locals might take these for granted but we thoroughly appreciate the play areas with swings in every neighborhood here. The floor of the area looks cemented but is actually soft so that the kids don’t get hurt. Also, the designs of the swings are super safe.

Look Out for Summer Fests

Most of Canada comes alive during the summertime with various festivals organized at regular intervals in the open spaces. We went to the Rotary Rib n Roll Carnival held at the beautiful Gage Park some weeks ago. A typical fest like this has music, food trucks, and games for kids. We are now looking forward to the Carabram Fest this weekend.

Go for a Picnic

Although the parks in Brampton are so picturesque that you can picnic anywhere, but there are some beautiful dedicated parks for spending weekends in the sun with friends and family. We went to the Heart Lake Conservation Park (there’s a small entry charge though) a couple of weekends ago. Our kid loved the small lake and the greenery around.

Other than these, of course, there are tons of other options. We are still discovering Brampton as we moved here only a few months ago. Shall keep updating as we see more of this beautiful city!
