Review: Avoid Fun Island Resort Maldives
Blessed with all the goodness of nature, the Maldives is an ideal honeymoon destination. No sights to see, the place is all about breathing in nature’s beauty while chilling at a relaxing resort. What can possibly go wrong in such an idyllic romantic destination? Terrible hospitality. Pleasant service is conspicuous by its absence at Fun Island Resort in Kaafu Atoll. This when their website had us believe everything that this resort is not. Misleading Info The one quintessential trait we found missing at Fun Island Resort was the “fun”. The beach front room was a misnomer; front of the rooms only has trees and vegetation blocking any slightest view of the…

Five Indulgences I enjoyed in Dubai
My first visit to Dubai was a very short one. I was quick to declare my dislike for the artificial city. It was too superficial for my senses, I had thought. During my second visit, however, I got to know Dubai better. I understood it better (since this time I had exorbitant glasses on!). I experienced Dubai the way it should be: the indulgent way. The thing I hated during my first holiday is what I loved during this visit. Not blessed with miracles of nature or richness of history, Dubai celebrates human achievement. The dizzying shopping malls, manmade archipelagos hyperbolic buildings – all define heights and depths of possibilities.…

Hotel Review: Novotel Vishakhapatnam
Looking for a getaway around Hyderabad? Here’s my review of Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach Hotel and things to do in Visakhapatnam: I fell in love with Vishakhapatnam (Vizag) at first sight. A small, beautiful fishing town that’s slowly crawling its way to becoming an industrial hub, its charm just mesmerizes you in no time. I have similar thoughts for Novotel Vishakhapatnam Varun Beach Hotel. Although I feel, the hotel is ahead of its time in this port town. It is most definitely a next generation hotel with largest convention space in east coast, all rooms facing the sea, landscaped terrace garden with jogging track, and (a beautifully beautiful) outdoor infinity pool overlooking the…

Wellness Holiday: Kairali
This is a kind of holiday you’d want to take when the everyday stress wears your out. Not the one where get busy clicking pictures and let yourself indulge in gluttony. But the one where you actually take care of yourself and get rid of the stress. A wellness retreat. You wake up in the morning and witness nature painting the sky in myriad colours and then welcoming the rising sun. The breeze that touches you is unadulterated and the only noises you hear are of the trees swaying and birds chirping around. You then relax on a hammock for a while before you head for breakfast which includes fresh…

A Romantic Extravaganza in Dubai
If you’re planning a holiday in Dubai, the idea is obviously to indulge. Right? The city spoils you for choices of ways you can splurge. But if the idea is to spend a romantic getaway or a relaxed family vacation, I recommend Fairmont The Palm located on the iconic Palm islands. Here are 5 reasons why I like it so much: 1. Breathtaking View: Stand in the balcony and you can see the vast Arabian Gulf in front of you and magnificent buildings framing the skyline on the side. The city comes alive in the evening when the buildings light up in different hues. I spent a lot of time in the…

Jaisalmer: Ride on Hrithik or SRK!
There are a plenty of things to see in Jaisalmer. But you won’t meet the picture postcard Jaisalmer — the way the show in the movies, ads and brouchers: men wearing red turbans, vast stretches of sand, camels, etc — until you move away at least 50 kms from the city. Till then it’s a usual city where modern buildings have taken over the original landscape, the local drivers are waiting to loot tourists, etc. If you are impatient, like I was, to explore the popular places to see in Jaisalmer in its ‘true’ form, you should directly head to either Sam Sand Dunes (where we went) or Khuri (apparently…
