Ontario has so many gorgeous locations offering a quick change in landscape and scenery. Luckily, a lot of them are in close vicinity of Toronto. We have only started exploring some of these beautiful weekend getaways from Toronto.

Here is our list of getaways we explored this summer:

1. Belleville

Toronto to Belleville map
Belleville is just about 2 hours away from Toronto

Belleville is a small but beautiful city located between Toronto and Ottawa. We went to this weekend getaway with very low expectations. We chose the destination last minute before a long weekend. We looked at vlogs and articles about the place but had a feeling that there isn’t much to look around in the city. But we were pleasantly surprised! We were quite excited to be at the National Air Force Museum of Canada and the riverside park. Here’s our vlog about it:

Belleville is a small town with some options for the kids for the long weekend.

2. Stargazing Weekend

We are an amateur-stargazer family! We have recently taken to the idea of driving away from the city to spend the night under the dark sky. We usually drive to Torrence Barrens and camp out there. But we spent one weekend at Gravenhurst (Howard Johnson Inn). We spent some time of the night at Torrence then went back to the hotel. It was a truly amazing weekend.

3. Niagara Falls

A no-brainer, right? When you can’t think of any other option, head to Niagara Falls! Whether it is for a long drive or a night stay, the destination is a perfect getaway from Toronto. And there is so much more to do after you spend time admiring the majestic Falls. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to see exciting things to do in Niagara Falls. 4. Meet Dinosaurs and Visit the Free Zoo at Peterborough

Our 5-year-old is a huge dinosaur fan. So, we were looking at options such as museums for her to enjoy. We found something amazing: Canada’s Dino Park! Dinosaurs come alive (thankfully not literally ;)) at this attraction. Here’s a video of all you need to know about visiting this dino wonderland for a day trip from Toronto.

One of the highlights of visiting Peterborough, Ontario is the opportunity to explore the only free accredited zoo in the province, located within the city. This unique zoo offers a fantastic experience for families and animal lovers alike.

The Peterborough Zoo is home to a variety of animals from around the world, providing visitors with the opportunity to observe and learn about different species up close. In addition to its diverse range of animals, the Peterborough Zoo also offers a delightful train ride that takes visitors on a scenic journey through the zoo grounds. The train ride provides a fun and educational experience as it passes by various animal enclosures, allowing you to view the animals from a unique perspective.

The train ride is especially popular among younger visitors, as it adds an extra element of excitement to their zoo visit. Children can sit back and enjoy the ride while spotting different animals along the way. It’s a wonderful way to engage with the animals in a safe and fun environment.

As you embark on the train ride, keep your cameras ready to capture memorable moments and take in the beautiful surroundings. The lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and well-maintained paths create a pleasant atmosphere that complements the zoo experience.

5. Tobermory [without parking reservations]

Tobermory is an Instagram celebrity destination. That means you can expect large crowds on any long summer weekend. Seeing a large number of visitors keen on visiting the gorgeous conservation area, the district has made it mandatory for visitors to the Bruce Peninsula to reserve parking in advance. Needless to say, the spots are limited and fill up very fast. But fret not. There are other amazing spots you can explore in Tobermory.

6. Barrie

We stopped at Barrie on our way to Algonquin. The city has a stunning waterfront area that makes for a lovely picnic spot and a day trip from Toronto. Take a look
