ALL IN A DAY

Unexplored Picnic Spot Near Delhi

Picnics are a part of our extended family’s get together sessions. So we are forever looking for new unexplored spots that offer options for fun for an entire day. One of the exploratory searches led us to Pratapgarh farms in Jhajjar, Haryana. A village-themed day outing spot, it offers various activities for all age groups and unlimited food.

You can choose from a large variety of options available for activities. We had a gala time bathing under the tube well (that was after wrestling in (apparently organic) wet mud — total village feel!). But if you don’t want to get messy you have plethora of options like jumping on the trampoline, enjoying a camel ride, playing badminton, tennis or cricket. Want some big group activities? Have a sack race, tug of war or dance to Bollywood music. And if yours, like mine, is a photo-crazy (read looking-for-perfect-Facebook-picture) family then you can get into those village dresses available there and pose with matkas. Apart from these, archery, dart shooting, riding a tractor, mehendi on hands, the list of things to do just goes on.

Food options too are unlimited. Start with a glass of Shikanjee or lassi. Hog on pakodas and paranthas. Makke ki roti, saag, bajre ki roti and achar, rajma chawal, the list goes on! However, do not expect a very fine quality of food. It is good decent quality but not something you’d talk about after you’ve left. But what you’d definitely cherish is the time here if you are in a group that bonds well!

Thumbs Up:

– An unexplored spot for a day-long picnic. Ideal place for large groups. So ideal for families, corporate getaways and school excursions.

– Go during winters and bask in the sun in the make-believe village setting. (It is closed during peak summer months and shuts down around 5:30-6 so reach early)

– Fun activities to choose from

Thumbs Down:

Ticket: The prices have been increased to Rs 780 per adult and Rs 450 for kids from 5 to 10 years of age. We paid Rs 350 per head. To me, the current price is a bit too much. But this is inclusive of unlimited food throughout the day.

Location: The exact location of the place is a bit tricky since there are no obvious signs and boards leading to the farms. Check out the route you need to take: http://www.pratapgarhfarms.com/route_map.html (Took us about two hours to reach from central Delhi.)

Quality of food isn’t great. But that’s not what you go to this place. This downside can be overlooked for the ambiance it offers.
