Tea Tasting at Roasted, Roseate House New Delhi

There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.”
― Henry JamesThe Portrait of a Lady

If you – like Henry James – take tea seriously, we have a veritable recommendation for you! The newly opened Roasted patisserie-cum-café at Roseate House New Delhi. Offering a selection of delectable varieties from the popular TWG brand as well as Blue Tokai coffee, this space is for anyone who has an appetite for indulgent experiences.

A cozy space, with a seating capacity of about 12 guests, Roasted offers an ideal space for a tea-time get together with friends as well as for formal business meetings. Tea & coffee lovers, of course, do not need any reason other than the beverage menu!

Blue Sky Dreamers was invited to an afternoon tea session on the day of the launch of Roasted. I tasted three of the several varieties of TWG teas available here. For the uninitiated, TWG is a Singaporean brand well known for luxurious tea experiences it offers.

Silver Moon Tea

If you don’t like black tea, this one’s for you. A blend of green teas, it is accented with a grand berry and vanilla bouquet, smooth, with just a hint of spice. It has a subtle flavour.

Black Chai

Not too strong not too subtle. I liked it because of the presence of several flavours such as ginger, cinnamon, cardamom seeds, clove buds.

1837 Black Tea

Strong and robust in flavour, this one has a unique blend of black tea with a lingering aftertaste of ripe berries and anise.

Price: Rs 425 each

Tea menu at Roasted

Executive Pastry Chef Anand Panwar recommends completing your tea experience with complementing macaroons (such as 1837 Black Tea and Blackcurrant, Lemon Bush Tea macroon etc) or tea cakes. My favourite was the carrot and ginger cake that went extremely well with the Silver Moon tea.

All the sweets are a little tangy so as to break the sweetness, balance the palate, and enhance the flavour of tea, explained Chef Panwar when I asked him about the accompaniments.

But if it’s something snacky you’re looking for, the menu – curated by Chef Anuj Wadhawan – will not leave you disappointed. Puffs, tarts, quiches, sandwiches…there’s a lot to choose from. My favourite was the Confit Chicken, which has an Indian flavour because of the Madras curry powder used in it.

sandwich recommendations at Roasted

Ask the chef for recommendations for tea and complementing sweets according to your taste buds. Or go for the hi-tea combo (veg: Rs 1100; non-veg: Rs 1400) for complete experience.
