Advantages of a Spa Treatment

  • Spa therapy fills in oxygen and speeds up the blood circulation in body.
  • Apart from relieving off fatigue and providing relief from mental tension, it strengthens muscular, skeletal and circulatory, respiratory endocrine, lymphatic and nervous systems. It makes the muscles strong.
  • Spa body massage reduces blood pressure besides strengthening the immune system. This massage lowers the tension augmenting hormones level and increases the secretion of peace rendering hormones like serotonin.
  • Body wrap and mud bath also are other popular spa treatments. This enhances the texture and tone of skin besides bringing in new shades on skin. Body wrap improves the tautness of skin and metabolism level besides detoxifying body.

Several people have inhibitions about going to a spa. Those going for a treatment the first time aren’t sure about what to expect. But do not hesitate. Tell them it’s your first spa visit, when you book your appointment so that they take time to answer any questions you have.

Do’s and Don’ts at a spa:

  • Eat something only after at least 1 hour of the treatment.
  • Arrive early (15 to 30 minutes prior to the appointment). Certain treatments, massages for instance, require that you fill out a medical questionnaire. You’ll also need time to change.
  • Make a trip to the loo prior to a service. You don’t want the treatment to be interrupted by the call-of-nature.
  • If you’re concerned about what to wear under the robe, don’t be. Almost all spas offer disposable underwear just for that purpose.
  • Don’t feel uncomfortable while massage as professional spa therapists are taught special draping techniques and the only part of the body exposed at one time is the part being worked on. Another thing that new spa-goers may not realize is that a therapist will usually leave the room to allow you privacy to remove your robe and hop onto the treatment table, and vice versa at the end of the treatment. So relax. Professional therapists do everything in their power to make a client feel comfortable and worry free during a treatment.
  • Let the therapist know about your aches, pains, areas that need attention.
  • Never use open loofah.
  • If you suffer from claustrophobia, refrain from wrap and steam therapy.
  • If suffering from psoriasis or dermatitis, take advice of doctors before going for spa treatment.
  • If there is a cut or injury in leg, don’t get fish pedicure done. This may lead to dangerous infection.
  • Discuss your requirements with the therapist first before the booking.
  • If our skin is sensitive, iodine and mud treatment could trigger allergies also. Maintain precaution in this regard. If you feel scabies or inflammation on your skin during the course of treatment, stop the treatment forthwith.
  • Don’t worry about falling asleep on the table. It’s the ultimate relaxation.
  • Following a treatment don’t jump right back into the rat race. Allow yourself a little time to relax and enjoy the moments of calm. Must drink water or herbal teas, it will help flush out toxins.

I like your advice about not feeling uncomfortable when going getting a massage. I have never experienced going to a spa. I think this would be a fun experience to have. Hopefully, I’ll be able to relax and enjoy the experience.
