The Embassy Restaurant- Food Review

Amazingly appetizing food, warm ambiance, and cult following are all phrases that can best describe The Embassy Restaurant, D-Block, Connaught Place. Established in 1948 by Mr. P. N. Malhotra and Mr. G. K. Ghai, The Embassy restaurant has come a long way and in this journey has earned a lot of love and appreciation. It’s nice to see several grand-parents sitting with their children and grand-children enjoying a hearty meal and reliving the good old days.

The Embassy boasts of fancy clientele and die hard following. But the real celebrity is the lip smacking, taste bud flirting, heavenly delicious food. I cover a lot of restaurants and the food at Embassy stood out from the crowd. When you hear so much about a dish, it’s almost unnerving to actually be presented with it. Like they say, one should never meet one’s icons as they might not live up to the expectations. But boy am I glad I met the legendary dishes.

The Delicious starters at The Embassy Restaurant.

We were treated with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian starter delicacies. Our vegetarian delight consisted of Tandoori Paneer (Rs 399.75), Tandoori Stuffed Aloo (Rs 349.75), Corn Seekh Kabab (Rs 349.75), and Tandoori Mushroom (Rs 399.75) and non-vegetarian starters included Tandoori Chicken (Rs 399.75 for half plate), Chicken Tikka, Fish Ajwaini Tikka (Rs 624.75), Mutton Seekh Kabab (Rs 524.75), and Chicken Seekh Kabab (399.75). Now these names sound very familiar. You must have had these starters at any other restaurant. But the similarity ends there. Right from the flavor to the tenderness of the meat, Embassy is at a different level.

[The .75 in prices is to give you an old-world feel. Wish the prices were actually from the yore!]

The starters prepared me for a gastronomic wonderland. Dishes like Dal Embassy, Dal Meat, Tomato Fish, and Murg Mussalam all hit the sweet spot to perfection. I couldn’t help but absolutely devour the Dal Meat and Murg Mussalam bowls. A definite must have.

Our sweet tooth was treated to the iconic Tooti Fruitee and Embassy Pudding. It’s fun to sit in a restaurant with so much history. Even the staff members having astronomical number of years of experience, the oldest being a 27 year old association. The staff mentioned that they took pride in working at the restaurant, a fact that I feel should be highlighted about Embassy.

Embassy is an old restaurant but has managed to keep up with the times giving it a legendary status. And all this has been possible due to the hard work and diligence of Mr. Kumar Savar Malhotra and Mr. Rajnish Bahl who have played pivotal roles in renewing the legend that is the Embassy Restaurant.

As I write this article, I’m sitting with my version of a cup of Cona coffee which I had at the Embassy, something that I am failing miserably at. And when I can’t take it anymore, I know where to get that perfect cup of Cona coffee along with an amazing afternoon experience.
