I NEED A LONG BREAK!

Our Romantic Honeymoon Trip to Bali & Singapore

Aakriti Jain and Ashish Gulati came back from their perfect honeymoon just recently. Mentally, they’re still there…cycling somewhere in Bali perhaps! Aakriti, a media professional, tells us about their travel experience to romantic Bali and Singapore. Honeymooners planning a trip to either or both of these location, here’s all that you need to know…

Firstly, tell us briefly about yourself. How did you two meet?

Ashish & I have been in this beautiful relationship since past 7 years. We met during our school days. Our friendship began from a basic “hi, hello” to meeting each other after tuition hours. We could be a perfect example of two like poles who attract each other. We had a perfect dream in our eyes – A dream where both of us could grow old together and be with each other for rest of our lives. Last March we had our first ritual as a couple – our roka ceremony followed by engagement in August and wedding in December. From pre-wedding shoots to shaadi preparations, it seemed like an unbelievable dream come true!

That’s sweet! Many Congratulations! How did you choose your honeymoon destinations? What were the thoughts behind choosing Singapore as well as Bali?

Since ours was a winter wedding, we wanted to go for a summer place to explore beaches and nightlife. Hence we thought of Bali as a perfect place to enjoy.  It’s as pretty as any other tropical island with blue beaches, crystal clear water and white sand. And Singapore fascinated me because of its pleasant weather in December and of course, the Universal studios.

What was your honeymoon itinerary like?

We didn’t go through any travel agents, as we thought it would be more fun to explore our way. We stayed four nights in Singapore and four nights in Bali. We had researched enough about the must-see places to visit in these two countries. We purchased local mobile cards from there. Google Maps app was our best friend!

Hotels where you stayed:

We had a beautiful private villa in Bali named as Bali Prime Villas. In Singapore, we stayed at Park Sovereign which was completely packed with Indians all around.

Memorable travel moments during the honeymoon…

In Bali, our hotel staff helped us a lot for local sight-seeing.  You can bargain hard with the local drivers. We had rented bikes for two days, which was so much fun! Singapore metro is the best way to commute with everything located right out of the station.

My favourite travelling moment was the cycling trip. It was unique experience, a combination of sightseeing & cultural tours through Bali’s amazing villages and country side.

Are you both foodies? Did you try new cuisines/food during your trip:

Since we our vegetarians, even being a foodie didn’t help much. There are a lot of options for non-vegetarians but very few for vegetarians. Thankfully, we had carried loads of ready-to-eat packets, snacks.

Most Gorgeous View During Your Honeymoon:

One of the most gorgeous views was at Rock Bar inside the Ayana Resort and Spa in Bali – it is the most beautiful bar I’ve ever seen in my life. Located on the edge of a cliff, one has to go through a cable car to go there.

The view from Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, which is known for its rooftop pool, also has a breathtaking view from 57th floor.

Must see places in Singapore and Bali for honeymooners:

There are lots of places in both of the countries. Four days were less to explore them all. Bali had some extraordinary temples to visit next to the island, like Uluwatu Temple. Then there is one Tanah Lot Temple which is on the cliff. Mount Batur is great for a mesmerizing sunset view. Seminyak located in the heart of Bali had some beautiful boutiques and hotel properties to explore.

In Singapore, places on our list were Universal Studios, Sentosa , Night Safari, Marina Bay, Garden by the Bay, Jurong Bird Park, Little India. Not to forget Clarke Quay for an amazing night life.

Avoidable places:

I think one could avoid trip for Night Safari, its little boring unless and until you are really fascinated with animals. In Bali, we attended Barong Theatre Dance. It was different but one can keep as an extra option

What to buy from Singapore & Bali:

There is a lot to buy from Bali since it has some great small boutiques to shop like bags, swim wears, kaftans and not to forget wooden souvenirs.

Singapore streets are full of high end brands; there are many shops right outside every MRT for you to shop cute stuff. You can get anything and everything from gadgets to pretty foot wears.

One word for your honeymoon:

This trip was our grandest adventure till date! Different country and exploring all alone without any guide was too much fun.

Tips for couples planning their honeymoon to either of these places:

Bali is one trip that’s easy to book without hassles and on a budget as well. Pack anything that you would pack for a trip to Goa! Load up on the sunscreen. Make sure you convert money to dollars before you leave from India.

Singapore is a wonderful place to shop; the city life is very different from here in India.

Total budget: It was a nine days trip. Our total trip came to about Rs 2 lakhs. That’s excluding our shopping!
