Food Festival: Oodles of Noodles at Stellar, The Ashok

Noodles. This is one food item that conjures different images in mind depending on the region you are in. Udon in Japan, Ramen in China, Vermicelli in Singapore…its forms are many. Bringing all the myriad flavours and types of noodles under one roof is Stellar (earlier Nom Nom) at Hotel Ashok in New Delhi. Curated by Chef Rajen Pradhan, the “Noodle Festival” is on till June 30th 2016.

Using 10 different varieties of noodles – like glass noodles, wheat noodles, Yaki Udon, Yaki Soba, rice vermicelli, hakka – the Chef has created an extensive three-course menu with soups, salads and main course. A supreme delight for noodle lovers! What’s more, all the varieties are available in vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian options. A word of warning though: oodles and oodles of noodles at once can be tiresome to the palate.

Light eaters can opt for a couple of soups as those are as good as full meals. There are five varieties available; you can choose any two for Rs 599 (plus taxes). Of these, I relished Asian style chicken & broccoli soup with wheat noodles and Chinese style chicken and black mushroom soup made with Yaki Udon. The first is a light soup with hint of garlic making it delectable. The second has distinct flavours.

Foodies with large appetite are in for a treat as the variety is incredible. Bland or spicy, boiled or friend, vegetarian or non-vegetarian – there’s something for everyone. Salads come in 12 variations; you can choose any three for Rs 1199 plus taxes. If you, like me, are fond of Thai cuisine, opt for Thai style noodle salad with prawns. The harmony of varied flavours is exquisite. Asian Zucchini salad is a delightful salad for vegetarians. If you spicy food, go for Chinese Crispy Hakka noodle salad. Make sure you order one of the mocktails with it for this is a really spicy deal!

For main course, there are about 24 varieties of noodles. You can choose any three for Rs 1599 (plus taxes). From spicy dan dan to aromatic Thai flavours and from spaghetti to Hungarian noodles – the choices are plenty. Of all the choices, my favourite was crunchy fried noodle with roasted duck and the bakmi goreng noodle with chicken and prawn.

We recommend a visit to this amazing festival to taste exotic flavours – of the most loved comfort food – from around the world. While some of the varieties are already a apart of Stellar’s menu, the Chef plans to add the ones that are most popular during the festival.

The festival is on till 30th June 2016.
