The Goa Food Fantasy!

The Goan Food fantasy: Good Restaurants in Goa

Perhaps the best thing about being close to the sea is sea food. If you have an insatiable appetite for fish, crabs, prawns and other such delicacies Goa has a sea of options for you to choose from. Now, we are not going to talk about the much spoken about Brittos and Titos of Goa. Skipping the predictable choices, we decided to look around for ourselves. Great decision!

While we were on our way from the airport to our villa we stopped over at Mardol Restuarant. My initial impression of the place was a little sad. The place smelled of fish and it would be tough to convince your vegetarian friends to eat here. However the food was absolutely delicious. We had the fish thali, the only item available around 4 pm along with the veg-thali. The thali set the tone perfectly for my gastronomically wonderful experience that was Goa.

For breakfast, we chanced upon Deee’ Kaffee in Anjuna. The place is simple, no shenanigans in its décor but the food is no-holds-barred delicious. The burgers were very juicy. Do try the crispy chicken and BBQ chicken burger.

A nice place to hang out and savor some amazing sea food thali is Fat Fish (Arpora Anjuna Road). The place is rustic and their steak is quite delicious (my mouth waters as I write this post!). Another place where we would have loved to hang out was Baba Café, just that it was closed when we got there. But do visit the place simply for its Goan charm. If you’re a vegetarian, or even if you aren’t try some food at the Navtara Hotel. The food is modestly priced and quite appetizing.

The Taste of India in Calangute deserves a mention for its ambiance and decently good food. It is slightly on the higher side in terms of prices though.

All said and done, your meals would cost you approximately Rs. 800 for two people. The thalis are an economical option and cost anywhere between Rs. 220 to Rs. 450, but are sufficiently satisfying.
