Delicious Punjabi Food at Made in Punjab, Gurgaon

I don’t fancy eating bhelpuri and golgappa in a seemingly posh restaurant. But there was something different about these street-food delights served at the Bhel Bar inside the newly opened Made in Punjab restaurant in Gurgaon. I recommend this one for its quality, variety and innovations. It’s not a typical Punjabi restaurant.

Location: I love its location. I hate Gurgaon but I quite like the idea of an open mall amidst the monstrous, gigantic buildings (they will eat me up alive one day, I feel!). It’s actually just the open space (DLF Cyber Hub) between Infinity Towers and Hero BPO that has been brilliantly utilized as a food mall.

Ambience: I like the casual ambience the place has even as it serves quality food, which is unquestionable as it carries the legacy of celebrity chef, Jiggs Kalra. (The restaurant is owned by his son Zorawar Kalra). There are phulka trolleys serving hot roti and daal, and live cooking station making it buzzy.

From papad and chutney to gol gappas  and lamb on real wood to biryani in a jar – presentation of food is remarkable.

Food: Simply delicious and not over-the-top like in most restaurants serving North-West Frontier cuisine. Apparently, there has been an in-depth study and research in getting the taste of Muslim, Hindu and Sikh cuisines from undivided India. I am no one to comment on the authenticity but the taste is certainly supreme.

I recommend: I challenge you to have the world’s heaviest lassi! It was a delight to have ganne ka juice (when was the last time you had it?).

Tandoori Chaanp; Prawn Kulcha (it will be the reason for a second visit to the place…must try!); Dahi Kabab (Jiggs Kalra fans would not miss out on this one); Beetroot cheese kabab (outstanding); Butter chicken (you haven’t tasted it like this one anywhere). And end the meal with crispy jalebi and lauki ka halwa.

The options besides these are far too many…go try and share your feedback!

Price: Value for money and how! Go during the lunch time and you can enjoy a sumptuous buffet at Rs 650; dinner is à la carte, slightly expensive.
